Software Development Team Leader

(Salary £45k-£50k dependent on experience)

Knowledge Transmission are looking for a Software Development Team Leader to lead the next phase of our technology development for our Learn Social e-learning product.

Our product technologies are innovative and provide engaging challenges in software development. You will be making an immediate impact in a startup, to lead the software team in developing the next phase of our Learn Social platform. Currently we use GWT/Javascript/CSS/HTML, Java servlets, AWS, Dynamo (NoSQL) – we want you to take the lead on how to improve our approach, or even to propose an alternative technology strategy to meet the requirements of the business as it grows over the next year.

Main responsibilities

As Software Development Team Leader you will:

  • lead our team of 4 Java developers
  • identify the technology route for the business to address the needs of our growing client-base
  • plan the development of product features and cloud services
  • work through the full range of platform development, from design through to deployment

Two core requirements:

  • 3-5 years experience of

    • Java development in a commercial context
    • cloud-based services
  • Experience of managing a team of software engineers on a commercial software platform

Additional expertise in the following will enhance your fit with this role:

  • Web application development or single-page/pageless site development (GWT-based)
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS Java SDK)
  • Dynamo (NoSQL) database or alternatives (e.g. MongoDB)

Software Developer Graduate

(Salary £28k-35k dependent on experience)

We are looking for an exceptional Computing Science graduate to join our development team as a Java developer. The role is based in Cambridge to help us develop our Learn Social e-learning product.

Our product technologies are innovative and provide an ideal opportunity for a Computing Science graduate to take the first step in building a career in software development. Previous graduate recruits have gone on to join global tech companies such as Google.

You will be making an immediate impact on a startup, developing our Learn Social platform for our growing client base. Things you do in your first week will be immediately used by university students studying English in over 15 countries in Latin America and SE Asia. We are currently working with more than 100 institutions, with tens of thousands of active users and we are expanding to more students within our existing customers and more countries and universities over the next year. Main responsibilities

As a developer you will be working in a team with 3 other developers in our north Cambridge office:

  • Developing product features, cloud services, and collaborating with our editorial and business teams to develop excellent products;
  • Working through the full range of our products and their life cycles, from design through to deployment and maintenance.

Core requirement:

  • Recent graduate of a Computing Science course with significant Java components and relevant project experience from the course.

Additional expertise in the following will enhance your fit with this role:

  • Web application development or single site page development (GWT);
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS Java SDK);
  • Versioning tools (GIT).
